Nice review on the Star of Honolulu – especially the driver!

I just saw this review on Tripadvisor, and thought it deserved a special mention here, since they specifically mentioned the driver!

My husband and I were given vouchers for this sunset dinner cruise by taking a time share presentation from the KoOlina Marriott. We only payed 32.00 for transportation (30 miles each way) from our Hotel to the dock. We were picked up by a friendly driver and were the only ones in the van. Our delightful driver was very much like a tour guide- and started our evening off nicely. He escorted us through check in and to the boat, a large ship-– and the Hawaiian entertainers were already in full swing on the docks with song and dance. We boarded the ship, and all the staff were friendly and seemed genuinely happy (which is nice to see that everyone seems to be enjoying their jobs.) We asked for window table, and were happily given one. 2 mai tais were brought to us complete with purple orchid decoration. They were yummy. The entertainer for our “section” came around and chatted with everyone, and then we strolled around the outside and to the observation deck as we departed- with our drinks in hand. Then dinner was served. We did not “upgrade” our dinner to other options, including a pricey 7 course meal which I hear is excellent. The buffet was plentiful and included a beef carving station, I am a total foodie, and an excellent cook… and I say the food was good, Not gourmet by any means, but all very tasty. We ordered the obligatory “Blue Hawaiian” drink to go with our dinner. Mmmmm. After a magnificent sunset and great views of Waikiki and Diamond Head, the show started. It was a little confusing hearing the music from the next room as well as ours- maybe because we were right up against the “wall” but we thoroughly enjoyed the show, including the obligatory hula dance instruction. It ended with a “train” of everyone joining in and dancing around the room back to back. We got into the spirit and enjoyed ourselves. The ship is older, and where we were sitting was perhaps a little tacky– but all in all, it was a fun night and a good value. We would recommend this trip. It lasted 2 hours, and the views of the city at night were gorgeous,
